I added folks suggestions from the last thread. It's time to make new space for new suggestions.

The format is less uniform but it lowers the friction enough that I'll be able to add folks suggestions more immediately. Other admins are welcome to go in and edit the format if that is something they'd like to do.

If folks format their suggestions I can pull that in. Of course not everyone is going to format the same way so it will be a hodgepodge. Formatting is not required to make a suggestion. By all means if you have good suggestions please go right ahead.

We tend to meet here at 8pm Eastern: https://cytu.be/r/matrixhub ; But I'm very close to having movies running here: https://goatmatrix.net/chat .

If you can please help break ties.

Now vote!

I actually watched some of that a while ago from your recommendation. Truly AMAZING!

Yeah, it really has almost everything I need from a film/TV series. I also love how they reuse actors as different characters from season to season, obviously to save on casting, but with the explanation that there are a limited number of human models in universe so you are just bound to end up meeting people who happen to look exactly alike no matter what.

Like Giggerota the cannibal from one of the first movies also plays the female Pope of Earth in Season 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FctUH2Jcxik

Random recommendations:

Naked Lunch (1992) 6.9/10 - A historical (psyop?) literary-based movie with lots of so much stuff to discuss. A not-quite-psychedelic mind fuck of a movie if you know nothing about where it comes from. A sort of tribute time-capsule if you know anything about the pre-hippie Beatniks. Also a Cronenberg-directed body-horror movie of sorts.

Votes | Title | Year | IMDb Rank + Link

17 Clue (1985) 7.3/10
14 Kung Fu Hustle (2004) 7.7/10
13 Spaceballs (1987) 7.1/10
12 Empire Records (1995) 6.7/10
11 Batman (1989) 7.5/10
11 Enter the Dragon (1973) 7.6/10
11 Logan's Run (1976) 6.8/10
11 The Terminator (1984) 8.1/10

Interesting breakdown:
pre1970s = 0
1970s = 2
1980s = 4
1990s = 1
2000s = 1
post2010s = 0

Conclusion:
They don't make movies like they used to.

High Fidelity (2000) 7.4/10 was better than Empire Records. If you like those you might want to vote for and/or see It's All Gone Pete Tong (2004) 7.2/10 in the list above.

Seeing the martial arts, I'm wondering if the Ip Man (2008, 2010, 2015, 2019, +) series or The Raid (Serbuan maut) series (The Raid: Redemption (2011) 7.6/10 + The Raid 2 (2014) 7.9/10)). I haven't seen them. It's been a long time since I was into this stuff and honestly can't recall too many of them beyond a bunch of memorable stunts. Also, maybe Hardcore Henry (2015) 6.7/10 - all in the first person as the stuntman doing crazy stunts.

Until OpenMovieDataBase etc. become publicly well-used their rank stats are useless. For all the pros and cons of evil-Amazon-owned IMDb they consistently have the best stats to reference, despite a few rare rank tampering occasions (less corruption than other sites). Perfect? Heck no. Especially when art/beauty/likes/preferences are in the eye of the beholder.

Usually you can generally tell when a movie is great, middling, or crap by the IMDb rank along with the number of folks who weighed in.

Thus, despite Larry or other nay-sayers, I think it's critical that the year of release and IMDb ranking are included.

Further, it helps decision making for the lazy people who only vote and don't offer movie suggestions, much less movie reviews, pros/cons, or any semblance of a discussion why we should or should not watch any particular movie(s).
