That sucks.

Oftentimes it gets rejected by clownflare. Inconvenient, but not sus. I find that a lot of sites where my vpn is blacklisted will actually accept tor connections. I just take it as a reminder to use tor.

I can typically bounce around to different ips, but not lately. things tightened up on voat.xyz first, now upgoat is doing the same. something has changed in the last few days.

I think they simply added more VPNs' IP lists to their blacklist (which is used by both those websites). Perhaps it helps to use a VPN where the IP lists aren't public, you may have to go paid for that. I heard Mullvad's VPNs don't get blacklisted. But do ask @x0x7 for a second opinion.

Oh, I don't know which ones get blocked on which sites. But I do support Mullvad as a company. They are highly regarded as the best for security. Proton as a company is good too. They offer more products in total and I recently read about them pissing off the left for not saying woke shit the woke were demanding.

So IDK. If you want top security, Mullvad. If you want to support a good company, both work and there are different reasons to support either.

I feel iffy about Protonfail. They logged a user's IP address and handed it to the authorities. They can do that with VPN connections too.

Then that settles it. Mullvad for VPN. Tuta for email.

Personally I went back to email providers that use smtp, I just cannot do without its convenience. My current provider doesn't even have encryption at rest but I don't care. The thing with Protonfail is also that you need to run their js it may even be proprietary (not sure). That used to be optional now it's mandatory. But I just wanna use my own email client and have access to a bunch of mailboxes which I all connect to (and which I perhaps registered) through tor, nobody connect these mailboxes but they're all mine and I don't miss a single email. With these encrypted mailboxes you have to connect manually in the browser or use some paid for bridge.

-> DigDeeper's review of a whole bunch of email providers.

Another pro of Mullvad is that their pricing seems to be just right. With all these budget VPNs it seems like they have to turn to nefarious practices for profit I just don't trust them.

One of these days I'll switch to Tuta.

Have yet to ever use a VPN.

Ever thought of hosting an instance?

What are your thoughts on OpenVPN and/or other open-source VPNs?

I can't recall who recently was saying they pay more attention to the encrypted stuff. Besides the established panopticon, and particularly watching those who want to hide stuff, it would make sense too if they wanted to always keep up their game, always improving, just as we are.

It would also make sense to pay more attention to those who speak beyond "safe dangerous" as well as leaders of any remotely-related anti-establishment resistance movement action.

ai says:
ProtonMail also operates a VPN service called ProtonVPN, which is not subject to the same legal requirements as ProtonMail's email service under Swiss law. Therefore, ProtonVPN cannot be compelled to log IP addresses.

It doesn't say which jurisdiction it falls under instead, that's kinda relevant. gay eye is dumb as shit.

Proton is pretty solid normally.

You can also use a shell account / VPS as a socks5 tunnel for the quickest loading times and least blacklisting (i.e. none) at the cost of some anonymity. It'd be better to use a VPS as your own VPN so that you can anonymize DNS requests.

(This is an addition to my reply above since you saw it after my edit.)

Oh yeah, Proton is good. Damn, that didn't get blacklisted before. But I think with free VPNs it's just a matter of time till it gets blacklisted. Is the problem only on those two websites? I feel like two websites blocking it simultaneously shows that it isn't nefarious activity from the webmasters.

not having issues with other sites.

maybe they went one antisemitism too far and now they need real ips of someone or another.
