I have a theory about stress that results in bullshit jobs being more stress inducing. It goes like this. You have a caveman brain. Cavemen didn't have project managers and scrum boards. They had to use instinct to decide what was valuable to do. It was critical that they did the actually necessary things to survive. Stress is a few things. But I think one component of it is the physiological manifestation of your minds calculation that the reward/outcome of something is not worth it. It's the job of the caveman brain to give yourself a sense of impending death if you are doing something you know is stupid, because a miscalculation of where to put effort as a caveman was death. And if you have social pressure to keep doing it anyway you just aren't going to feel good. Every second of everything you are doing just feels deadly stupid. And if it weren't for the bullshit economy it would be.

I call this stress form B. If you have it your instincts are probably right. Either what you are doing or how you are doing it is stupid. But work places don't always have the flexibility to adjust to people's intelligent intuition. If that doesn't sound like your work place, congratulations, you are in an environment that is much more sane than what most people are dealing with.

Maybe I'll have to do a write up on stress form A and C some time. Short of it is stress form A is impossible to avoid completely because it's a consequence of humans being persistence hunters whose mode of work is to entirely ignore homeostasis. So we commit micro-abuses of our bodies even during the least physically demanding work. The answer to that is to take a break or implement the pomadoro method which makes you more productive anyway. Form C is the opposite of B. It's when we have work that makes full use of our intuition, physical application, and mental application, and has purpose, but after a full day of it of course you are exhausted. But that accounts for all stress forms. Stress form C is the goal, but because that exhaustion is a stress form it means you will never lead a stress free life unless you really want to do nothing with it.
