I wonder if this has anything to do with women who think long nails fake nails are attractive. They only think they are attractive because other women told them they look good. Who put that out there first. Maybe it was a woman trying to coax another one into looking like Nosferatu, then it all snowballed.

No man ever made the suggestion. Obviously the people selling these services are going to be one source of this messaging.
