  • Heliohost - Non-profit that provides cheap shared hosting.
  • Web 1.0 hosting has a nice free plan.
  • sdf.org - Another non-profit that provides shell accounts.
  • tildeverse.org - free shell accounts.
  • LowEndBox features great VPS deals.
  • Neocities - Revival of Geocities spirit. Provides 1 GB free but they partake in censorship.
  • Angelfire provides hosting starting at $1/month although that plan features ads. For static websites. Not very attractive, just the idea of having a site on that domain name is cool. This host exists since the '90s.

Communities

  • Blue Dwarf - notable revival of traditional forums.
  • Diggy Forum - Dig Deeper's forum.

This is about the smallweb, independent spirit, decentralization, etc. Quite the opposite of what clownflare is. I suppose it empowers the average joe to resist DDOS attacks but they have too big a market share. I believe there are alternatives.
