there should be a way to get individuals to advertise in a cheap way. I think it would be fun. Imagine having your ad on reddit or youtube for a few dollars going directly to a content creator you support.
Video games should get into advertising as well. Imagine a mmorpg where users can post ads with their names on it to an entire server of thousands of people. Or websites where your name can be front and center if you pay a certain amount.
Niche advertising should be tried and would be extremely popular
I've been thinking about adding it here. Old voat is an inspiration for the site and they had it. A half good model too. And not because I need the money (though honestly I could use it). But because I like doing things I think I have an interesting idea about.
One problem is that because I built the website without it there isn't space. Like are we dropping chat? Maybe I can put it in the footer. That might align with what you are saying about individuals advertising. It's the companies that demand they have to be "above the fold." If making ad space to normal people you can tell them they will get what they get. It lowers the value of the advertising space but that's OK. It's still a fair deal for everyone and would have less impact on user experience.
I think if it's priced low enough then it opens the gate for fun advertisements. Just shit people want to make visible. I like the idea of shitpost ads.
