On the topic of doctors disagreeing one area that I know a lot of physical therapists disagree is on lower back forward flexibility. The video says it's good to be flexible in all directions. A lot of physical therapists that take care of the elderly say you do not need lower back flexibility. In fact less is better. And you really don't need forward flexibility there. From their perspective they say it's better to value stability of the lower back. These are people who have seen real problems from people's back habits and have fixed problems by teaching people to eliminate those stretches that target the lower back going forward.
So does this disagree with what he said that doctors don't know what they are talking about and there is no evidence of pain or injury? Well the no evidence he cited was tied to phone usage and upper back posture. But he used this non-evidence to make a broader claim saying all positions of back movement are healthy.
Now he also said that upper back kiphosis doesn't cause pain. That can be pretty untrue. He said one thing that was accurate that helps us realize why. He said your next posture is your best posture. This is true and a realization the physical therapy community has come to. That there is no single correct posture that will give you zero problems. The problem with upper-back kiphosis then is that people with it struggle to get into any other posture. Thus they are in one posture all day. There are muscles in the shoulders that are in constant tension as a result. It's not good for a muscle to be in continuous tension. While it seems like getting your shoulders and head back is hard and takes effort doing it actually relieves effort from muscles that should get a break.
So yes, he disagrees with doctors, and doctors disagree with him for a reason. On some points.
Oy vey, my posture is meshuga.
Before there was phone neck there was book neck.
I like hyper-lordosis in chicks but I don't like faux-bubble-butts.
