When I worked for a law firm in the late 1990s, I wrote programs. ASP Pages and Visual BASIC. I did an employee info ASP page that was part of an employee search, as they had 500 employees. My manager asked me to add the spouse's name to the employee info program so people can know the name of the employee's spouse of the employee. I said it was a bad idea and would show same sex marriages and out people as gay. He said we don't do that here, add the field, or you are fired. So I added it. Most of the management had a same sex spouse, outing them as gay, and people who never got management or promotions didn't have a same sex spouse's name. People complained that my program was wrong or made mistakes. That's when I first learned about the Gay Mafia.
It's not really explosive info about the flaming gaylords of tech.
Silicon Valley, including San Francisco, has been queer and rich and exploitative since the gold rush. Not everyone is or wants to be "out" - thus deception, thus secret societies, thus secret alliances and power-plays and conspiracies, including blackmail, crime, drugs, etc. The Gay Mafia is a real thing. So real that we (some Burning Man folks) had a parody group, The Art Fag Mafia (I still have some business cards and stickers somewhere), including dozens if not hundreds of all kinds of folks, including gay. We did a lot of DIY outside-the-box but not gay events. Some great times with great folks.

I wonder if the Gay Mafia did the same things in Germany before Hitler took power? It could explain why Hitler wanted to get rid of gay people.
