Antibiotics are the cause of addiction. True story.

Relationship with this? Addiction is said to have its root cause in the inability to connect to other people, that social stability mentioned in the video. But how do you develop connection? Well it turns out that the feeling of belonging, of connectedness happens through a neurotransmitter called oxytocin.

Oxytocin, like most other neurotransmitters, is created in the gut, by friendly bacteria. Except this particular neurotransmitter is created by the one strain of bacterium that is the most sensitive to antibiotic use. Most likely, everyone who's taken even one course of antibiotics in their life has killed off this friendly biotic and thus, can't make oxytocin, and thus can't feel connected, therefore setting them up for addiction.
