The population collapse in the middle ages was insanity. Most major works of art of the era include skeletons and skulls, as the horrors of life traumatized everyone living through the catastrophe.

I'd still rather bear the difficulty of it than introduce clashing and competing cultures right before it does catch up to us. Different groups sure didn't get along during the middle ages. At least they had comfort in the fact that locally they were almost always homogeneous. Because the middle ages would have been made better by every town descending into warfare internally.

There is no reason why we can't handle it. We've seen population collapses before and now we have more technology to get us through it. Each person should be able to produce enough for himself. We just may not be able to support a parasite class as well through it so they'd have to become workers just like the video pointed out happened then. But a man, some land, and middle age technology was enough to be sustained. A man, some land, modern technology and knowledge, and some new humility and willingness to work should sustain a man just as well if push comes to shove.

There is no way conditions can get so bad that things are unsurvivable unless someone actively makes it that way.
