Though he was a brass founder, his hiring was actually a matter of necessity—he was simply one of the few local metalworkers in Philadelphia at the time capable of undertaking the massive recasting job."
The fact is that Pass used the same cheap bronze and a similar shape of bell, which cracked again within a century. He fucked up. It was known at the time how to cast a decent, large bell that would not crack, as had been done for numerous churches.
