It is true. Why do you think they keep building data centers? Toyota 2027 cars no longer have a key fob; they use an app to start the car, and after a year, it costs $15 a month to keep the feature. Buy older cars without the spyware and enshitification. It reports back to Toyota how you drive and what speed limit you break, etc.
I'm starting to become anti-car. Not for the same reasons as these people who hate suburbia. What did suburbia ever do to them? But because if they enshitify a technology I start becoming less interested in owning it. I certainly don't feel excited to be invested 60k into an enshitified technology.
If it's something I can't repair in a reasonable way myself, I'm actively starting to look for ways I could avoid owning it.
Much like the open-source BIY farming equipment movement we need to accelerate the open-source BIY auto movement. Each state may have different laws for what is road worthy. Also, if you put your car in a private-trust they can't ticket you for speeding nor get capital gains if you "sell" the private-trust - but the parasites that be with a monopoly on violence will do what they do if inclined.

Everything is going to a subscription model with new tech.
I'll eventually subscribe to the hotwiring of my own vehicle, so I can use it.
Maybe I'll do a bit of research to find the best of the convicted car thieves, and find one who's served his time, or maybe or on parole.
