Hookups are great if the couple is nice and responsible
Hookups are as old as the human species
Anyone around in the 60s or 70s will know that hookups were greatly enjoyed at that time and only criticised mainly after 1981, when there were concerns about HIV and AIDs
This is just one item on a long list of problems we have in the West.
There are a lot of forces applied to create the individuals and culture (with/without ethics, morals, taboos, etc.) that we live in.
Ultimately it depends on what kind of person you are, how you behave, and what you think and believe - and if society permits freedoms, including the freedom to make mistakes.
There is no threat to be banished from society anymore. In fact, you can be a drag on society now and still be supported by it. There are too many people to live by the old rules. Eventually, the people who are predisposed to follow norms will stop caring. Then we will put ourselves back into serfdom. I feel like we're voting ourselves into that now.
