To be fair, my own preferences in women don't seem steep to me. But it's going to rule out a lot of women. And a lot of men are going to be preferring the exact same things.
This is why small villages work. It's ok to have preferences. But in that setting you are going to get what you are going to get. In an urban environment, people hold out for better indefinitely. Or they embrace hookup culture to give a temporary shot to someone that isn't "good enough" for them. Since no one is good enough for almost anyone.
I would argue that hookup culture (HC) and 'holding out for better indefinitely' are linked. HC helps enable people to hold out for unrealistic time frames.
Your immediate needs are meet with HC and you seem fulfilled at the time but it's shallow/temporary fulfilment. It's not until your 30s (or even 40s) that people start to either realise or start getting rejected in HC and then start panic looking for a stable partner.
But like I'm sure you have heard, decent people to date later in life are like parking spaces. All the good ones are taken and all that's left is handicap.
Isn’t this something the market will correct for? If someone’s standards are truly delusional, they won’t get what they’re hoping for and will either have to reframe their mindset or accept being alone.
