Amazon, which saved $4B in taxes under Trump's Big Ugly Bill, has cut 30,000 jobs since last October.
Verizon, which saved $2B, plans to cut 15,000 jobs this year.
Meta, which saved $3B, plans to lay off 20% (16,000) or more of its workforce.
Trickle-down economics is a cruel joke. (quoting Robert Reich)
What if we exclusively taxed corporations over a certain number of employees? It seems like they are the ones everyone dislikes. Would you support removing taxes on all individuals? (provided that would be the arrangement afterward).
I think it's an interesting question, but my view has always been that everyone be treated fairly for their taxes. Above the poverty line everyone should be taxed somewhat the same. If I pay 20%, anyone wealthier than me (and any corporation) also should pay 20% and should not be able to use tax havens legally. It's to me the foundation of the United States.
("No taxation without representation" was a primary slogan of the American Revolution, summarizing colonists' fury at being taxed by the British Parliament without having elected representatives there. Colonists viewed this as a violation of their rights as Englishmen and tyranny, with the principle rooted in the Magna Carta (1215).)
And because I pay taxes, the US should not be at war with Iran, for example, because that doesn't represent me and most Americans.
All individuals, small businesses, corportations and politicians should have as their main interests the well-being of their communities, because without healthy communities, we're not healthy.
Lower it to 15% and we have a deal.

Robert Reich is a tiny lying piece of shit.
But he might be correct here.
Or might be underselling it.
Or may be a limited hangout distracting from other issues.
He can't be trusted either way.
I'm likely to believe you. But an example would be extra good.
I used to really like his insights, outlines, and appearances on The Daily Show, documentaries, etc.
I forget what he specifically said, but like many, it was like a light switch illuminating his small partisan part of the establishment. It could have been before COVID, COVID related, COVID financial related, or some other talking point repetition. Once you see it the respect is lost and hence forth all you can see is their inversion of truth and reality - often mixed in with inescapable truths.
Everything I've seen of Robert Reich's has been spot on. I also had the opportunity to meet him once, which was a big deal for me, as I've read his economic advice for many years. Regardless of one's politics, economic facts are I think essential to bridging the divide between people, as is science, mathemetics and all of that other stuff of the Enlightenment that has benefitted us 300 years hence. So I often prefer to read economic news media, as it's nearly impossible to refute and when it's wrong, one can provide the numbers to prove why it's wrong.
Lies, damned lies, and statistics
Mark Twain coined the term "Gilded Age" (1873) to describe the late 19th century as a period glittering on the surface but corrupt underneath, driven by greedy "robber barons" and political cronyism . He viewed these industrial tycoons as exploiters who amassed vast fortunes through monopolies, while treating workers with the same cruelty as animals. By the time of his autobiography chapters (1906-07) he had spent a professional lifetime criticizing the robber barons. The same kinds of robber barons are running the US today, because the New Deal restrictions on corruption have been deregulated by Republican-controlled legislation (and a few Dems) in the past 45 years.
The New Deal is not as good as you remember.
It's not a left-right problem, socks.
ALL of the Democrats and Republicans are to blame.
It's a top-down problem.
The difference between communism and fascism is the spelling.
Both are corporations and governments in cahoots to suppress and exploit the people.
Remember when we lost HonkKongPhoey over everyone thinking he was Socks?
Remember when we lost a lot of users from micromanaging administration?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
HKP could have been clear. He could dish, but was a snowflake too.
I believe he's been back. Can't be sure. Can't ever be sure on an anon forum.
Neither pumpkin nor socks would quit from being called socks.
