As long as we have corrupt people in office. Aka as long as we have a republic. A republics are as foreign controlled as they are controlled by their population. This is why all republics try to spread "democracy," republicanism. Once a country is a republic it joins the cabal.
The exception are fake republics. The People's Republic of China, The Federal Republic of Russia, The Democratic People's Republic of Korea. There the people can't replace their leaders. But so too can't foreign powers. Whether the salt is worth the sugar isn't a value statement I'm trying to convey. It's just what is. And what also is is that this pisses off the cabal completely that there is some part of the world where they don't have control.
What would actually give the people power is something the America founding fathers figured out. An actually empowered people have the ability to establish and desolve sovereignty at will. And also have the ability to realign the sovereignty associated with an area. If we had democratic boarders that would be real control because governments would have to compete to serve us if they wanted to retain land. But instead we use war. We are compelled to murder each other when and if the powerful see fit so we can decide who is a slave to what where. We also wouldn't have war, hopefully, if we had democratic borders because there would less to gain. At the very least we could resolve a lot of historic land disputes.
That's what I've been saying - about all of it. Doesn't matter if you're Left or Right or for or against any corporatocracy or even for Voluntaryism - especially libertarians who ignore the corruption and abuse of powers inherent in big organizations. Smashing them to bits and/or decentralizing will only get you so far. "Justice" will only get you so far. "God" will only get you so far.
Yet we need logical ethical moral codes of conduct that have real repercussions and consequences. And how is this determined? Who judges? Who judges the judges?

Also Canada and the US have rigged (s)elections, like anywhere else. It's all just political theatre with the same plans and results on the matters we get no say in, while we argue about the divisive fringe issues.

It would be nice if the people could realign sovereignty without bloodshed. But if you give someone a little power from your own, they will kill you if you try to take some of it back and have the audacity to call you a villain or a terrorist or treasonous.
The day it's "treasonous" to kill your politicians is the day you need to kill your politicians. Because it means they've forgotten whose power it really is. It might be murder to kill a politician but it's not treason. A master can't be disloyal to himself by killing his servant. But the second the servant demands fealty from his master they've lost track of the order of this relationship and have become a danger.
