I've never heard of this podcast. It seems pretty professionally done. I see they have a forum. I wonder if they care to know what happened to Saidit and where people ended up. I did a search on their forum for Saidit and the only thing that popped up was one post four years ago. Still they did an entire podcast episode on it so it's reasonable to think they would be at least a little interested. I wonder what kind of user overlap we have.

I've never heard of this podcast.

The Chris Knowles episodes are great.

With or without organic overlap, IMO, we should come up with ways to engineer better communications and communities and ecosystems. It's easy to say that and come up with grand ideas - but difficult to execute. Yet try we must.

Including HigherSide and TinFoilHat, I can think of MANY more authentic worthy conspirophiles from 5 or 10 years ago that aren't on that list. They create vastly better content than the controlled-drama timesuck-silo ops like Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, Tim Pool, vs David Pakman, Kyle Kulinski, Majority Report.

A fifth interview?

M7 did four interviews in 2018, listed on the article I wrote long ago, https://InfoGalactic.com/info/SaidIt - but IG seems down too. Sad.

Two interviews with HigherSide Chats and two with Sam Tripoli's TinFoil Hat Podcast. Both excellent productions that seemed much more prominent back then, but maybe that's just what I was exposed to, perhaps the algorithm has manipulated me, or maybe better content has risen up to eclipse them from my focus.

From January 22, 2025.

I'm listening to it now and he talks about some of the behind the scenes stuff that went on at Saidit and how he had to manage it.

[-]dog5(+5|0)

Yeah I remember him discussing his interviews at Saidit. I don't know how he can be so concerned with these important topics while removing himself entirely from Saidit and Reddit months ago. And d3 appears to be so fed up that he won't bother emailing m7 or checking out Saidit's server problem.

[-]Zapped2(+2|0)

He might think of Saidit as a failed project by now, not worth his time away from other projects or family, while being too proud to pass it along for someone to turn it into something he doesn't like (or have control over). Or, he could be overwhelmed with life outside of Saidit. The fact that his main accounts have gone dark on Reddit and Saidit for the past 8 months make me think the latter. Or, he could have sold his bitcoin and said "F*#$ it! I'm Doug and I'm outta here."

I've had a theory that the insane cloudflare interval was him actively trying to shed users. Maybe he wanted to shut it down but wanted to upset a smaller population.

[-]dog5(+5|0)

I also wandered about that. We know that he's actively shed users during several intervals in the past 7 or 8 (?) years. He noted early on that he didn't want the site to become what it quickly became, when it took on many users from Reddit's banned 'hatred' subs. He and d3 and other admins also had communication difficulties.

But until earlier this year, m7 seemed at least somewhat invested in the site. Regarding the cloudflare restrictions, however, he would not listen to reason. While putting extra mods in place (early last year?) he nonetheless was so sure about the ridiculous cloudflare restrictions that he threatened anyone who complained about them with a ban. Really strange.

Anyhow, my comments here and further above are not about finding solutions for Saidit. I'm just curious about its current state. It's already apparent d3 and m7 don't want to do anyting for Saidit these days. They obviously have their reasons, whatever they are. In the past I'd contact them both about host problems and the response was rather quick. Not today, however.

I am grateful to you for your continued work on goatmatrix. I've visited periodically over the years, but have not been very active. At Saidit I've been very supportive of your approaches and your movie nights. At the moment it seems Saidit lives on here, which is amazing. Very much appreciated.

If I had a site and it was compromised and I wasn't allowed to tell the userbase about it, I'd probably try to ruin it so people would voluntarily leave. You know, the Edward character hasn't been around in a while, either. Did that one play itself out?

[-]dog1(+1|0)

Yeah - it's working, lol. Edward's been around. Shortly before 1 December he replied to some people with the #title text font. He would tend to visit 2 times/week in recent weeks (with odd usernames). Chat's also been quiet much of the time, which is what he seemingly enjoyed most.

[-]dog1(+1|0)

Yep - all of that. My response to this is further below, in response to x0x7's response to you. I am not sure how to share the link here.

being too proud to pass it along

Either he's a controlled op or his ego is outrageously huge and stupid. Clearly he's not an authentic freedom fighter and truth-seeker.

Regardless, he should have given the community opportunity for input, self-determination, and self-organizing management.

Fuck magnora7.

Just let SaidIt die.

Life support solves nothing.

Sunk cost fallacy

Moving on, the only things worth doing are 1) archiving as much of SaidIt as possible, and more importantly 2) supporting other worthy sites/communities like GoatMatrix.
