I don't think so, what's the difference, having a consciousness. Tbf I can't prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Napoleon ran things on the farm. But animal farm is written in the third person view and doesn't show napoleons thoughts. Nobody tried to rise up besides snowball, so I think only those two pigs had consciousness so weren't really animals. Fictional allegory. But it's really about consciousness vs unconsciousness. Orwell frequently discussed class consciousness. 1984 had the protagonist hoping the proles will rise up, they never do in the book tho.
