I agree with the premise of this advertisement. Most songs on almost every album were crap. Similarly, most bands could barely play their own music in a live concert, and I think the majority of it was recorded in studio by actual musicians talent. These famous faces are mostly actors.
That's probably why "Slash" (lame name for the Guns and Roses lead guitarist) was played up. He wasn't playing anything that was particularly complex, but he would actually play live guitar for a headliner band. But he held the guitar in a playable posture, and let his hair hang forward so he could see the guitar while he played.
He didn't hold the guitar like a phallus like the actors did, because it's impossible to play in that posture.
