I almost agree. When I was younger I was so considerate that given two places to turn left I wouldn't use the first option if I was the first car in the lane to avoid having the cars going straight the opposite way have to wait the whole cycle just to have one car pass. If a car was already there then it was already triggered.
But now I don't care.
But for the cross walk, it depends how it's designed. Most of the ones I see today seem to just continue the same traffic cycle so the cars were going to wait anyway. But I feel like when I was younger the cross walk button would actually stop cars.
