I have a peculiar reason to think that it will increase the commenting rate. I want to expose more people to themes. And maybe just a little bit I want to encourage people to contribute to the white theme.

Contributing should be easy. Just make comments that modify the site in one way, and then we can tree all the elements together with #include statements.

To make the formatting fancy be sure to put "```css" at the top. And then close with another triple backtick on the bottom.

We'll try running white theme for a couple days.

Before we do any coding at all, how about we first find reference images that we like (GUIs, screenshots, advertisements, industrial design, flower arrangements, classical paintings,... whatever inspires you for whatever reason(s)).

Even if most of the image is terrible but we really really like the rounded corners on that architecture or something - at least it's a visual cue, a motivation, a goal, or something that can be emulated - even if just a feeling.

Having the reference and the discussion should help clarify what direction we choose to go in.

In chat I mentioned a few white things...

Owait I get it. It's a visual pun, right? White power, anyone??

Um, to be honest it's not something I was going for. I'm going to make a few more improvements to it. Then we will see what we really want to use.

The changes that were made so far are really the minimal, but I want to fix the things that are a little off. That's what I meant by progressive theme.

Okay but dark comments below a white post certainly couldn't have been intended right?

Nope. Not intended. The idea is we would just set the background as white and then in successive versions fix what is off until it looks good in order of criticality. Trust me, versions 2-5 addressed things more critical than that. After version 5 that was the first moment it was at all usable as a theme, but not good. Versions 6-12 would be making it good. Each version would adjust approximately one thing each. I think version 6 would be darkening titles. 7 making comment backgrounds light. 8 fixing contrast issues in the comment after doing 7. 9 would probably target the sidebar. Making a progressive improvement is as easy as importing the prior comment and making one adjustment.

I guess the point of showing the white theme was to say, hey, if we fixed up a few off things do people see how it might be good?

I do generally like white themes. White pride world-wide. 💪

The contrast between the white and gray areas is really too big, you should go with a lighter shade of gray then imo. And there are probably other things that I cannot pinpoint exactly, maybe the contrast for the border of boxes is too big as well. I recommend studying old.reddit.com or tildes.net and just copying what they do, those sites have light themes that look good.
