I talked to this guy to day and it was so exhausting that by the end of it I ended up not getting any work done today.

The prior few days I spent sprint developing something for a presentation. I wanted to use the presentation to build something new. The next stage in what I had built in the past. It involved a lot of research. In the end I learned a lot but didn't end up with something I could quite demo. So I ended up using the last of my time to revive some old code and retro-fit it to this demo. I got it done at the last second and ended up having a great presentation.

That is all to say I had spent a week hyper focused on one thing. Today was supposed to be my first day free from that sprint so I was looking forward to other productivity. I just wanted to go one one hike to decompress first. On my way there I ended up getting a flat tire. It's bad enough I think I need a new tire. I was able to get it to a walmart in another town (from my own). They are booked but I can talk to them in the morning to get the work done.

Ok. But now I'm stranded in a different town, or so I was thinking. Ah, there is a Wendy's nearby and a Subway. I can get a meal and work in one I'm sure they don't mind. So I choose the Wendy's. I have some family I can call later for a ride so I'll just hang out till then.

Well I ended up talking to a complete stranger. We end up talking about business and I'm thinking I'd like to just exchange linkedin's and move on. While I was eating before then I had done some price lookups on uber and lyft and it wasn't that bad. About $20.00 to get home. I never do Uber because I have a car but I'm thinking this isn't a bad option.

But this guy says he'd be ok with giving me a lift. I figured it would be rude to not take the courtacy and if he's open to doing it I have no reason to say no.

But we had already spent forever talking in that Wendy's, a good time talking on the drive, and now I'm in my driveway and this guy is still talking my ear off. He just did me a major favor as a complete stranger so it seems rude to in-graciously say hey... I've got to go, like now!

It wasn't until I got away and tried to get back to work that I realized I was completely drained and stayed that way till the end. I got nearly no work today. Only a little work before attempting this hike. I didn't know talking to a person could be so exhausting it ruins your day. I've never talked to someone like that before.

This guy told me he does sales and he has an 80% close rate. Now I have doubts because he actually had me sold that he might be a good contact but then he talked past the sale, and past it more, and past it more. If that's his usual instinct there is no way.

I need to start memorizing pre-scripted exit lines. To become the king of exiting conversations is my new goal.

Weird fucking day.

Meanwhile I realize after the fact there was a spare in the car the whole time. Because it was an active leak and almost to the rim when I discovered it I just went into immediate go mode before really thinking.

At what point do you wish things had ended? If you had a re-do where would you exit?
