Mr. Karim A. Souaid was appointed as Governor of Banque du Liban (BdL - Central Bank of Lebanon) on March 27, 2025, and officially assumed office on April 4, 2025. In this capacity, he manages all aspects of BdL.
Moreover, Mr. Souaid is a member of the Board of Governors at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF).
Mr. Souaid possesses extensive expertise in banking regulation, financial governance, and capital markets across both U.S. and Middle Eastern frameworks. His knowledge covers the essential pillars of compliance mechanisms that underpin sound and resilient financial systems, namely capital adequacy, risk assessment, and liquidity requirements.
Alongside his professional work, Mr. Souaid has collaborated with Harvard Business School professors, contributing to several white papers on private equity in the Middle East. He is an active contributor to the International Negotiation Program at Harvard University and has a close academic cooperation with the Kennedy School of Government. His insights and commentaries have been featured in leading global publications, including The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times
Mr. Souaid holds an LL.B. from Saint Joseph University in Beirut and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School (HLS), where he specialized in U.S. banking regulations. He has also completed executive programs at Harvard Business School (HBS) in Corporate Valuation and Restructurings, and at HLS/HBS in Business Negotiations.
