It also makes it hard to prioritize and manage our other aliances that are actually useful. And we actually need the ones in Europe and Asia. But when we don't actually make decisions for ourselves those relationships are going to be neglected, if there is no direct utility for our foreign masters.
Also, if you want this war to force a cultural change in Iran, good luck with that. Remember when we tried that in Afganistan and flew pride flags at our consolates. Then the Taliban took over again. If you are going into Iran with that aim you really are signing up for a forever war you can't win. Better to just lose the cheap way. Shipping navel vessles back to our hemisphere is a lot cheaper, and we get to the same conclusion 30 years faster.
