Currently

Currently you can click "save" on a post. (We're not yet able to save individual comments or messages. I suspect comments, comment-feeds, messages, and message-feeds are an entirely different can of worms.)

After clicking a little confirmation popup lets you know that it's been saved, and the "save" then turns to "favourites" which links to a list/feed of saved posts.

When you refresh or revisit that post, it returns to its default display saying "save", as if it hadn't been saved. It looks like a link, but does nothing when clicked (such as link to favourites).

Beliefs

I believe a single term should be chosen rather than two: "save" & "favourite".

I believe clarifications of the terms are necessary to define the purpose of "save" and "favourite". I'd also like to add "archive", "flag", "mark", "note", and other similar ideas to this discussion for future reference and planning. All of these functions, and more, could be represented with icons.

Requests

  1. I request that the favourited "save" text be altered with a link to the current "favourites" feed.

  2. I request a way to remove posts from the "favourites" feed.

  3. For the record, a big ask, it would also be nice to be able to re-order, sort, use folders, etc. to organize favourites.

  4. I request that a link to the "favourites" feed be added to all users' settings.

  5. Unrelated, I just noticed the "Block" blacklist and "Friends" whitelist in settings - but it was very low on the page, after the sidebox. I recommend that it be less wide or whatever it takes to fit up under the other settings.

  6. Now that I've seen those lists, it might be nice to have an extra "Self Description" section to display on user pages (ie. https://goatmatrix.net/u/JasonCarswell). This vanity paragraph may have a limited character length to fit in the sidebox or a banner, or it could be a pinned post (ideally pinned posts should have a different colour). A "Notes To Self" section might be nice for whatever the user thinks is note worthy. Perhaps these are displayed like an editable post or comment in MatrixDown? Perhaps the black/whitelists might be better displayed like editable comments too? This format forces users to save, a button that may be overlooked.
