The Appalachian Trail runs through 22 Native Nations' traditional territories and holds an abundant amount of Indigenous American history.

I know many of the Cherokee remained along the southern several hundred miles of that trail after they were expelled from native lands in the 1830s-40s, rather than join other Cherokee and the 4 other tribes in the trail of tears westward (resulting in nearly 17,000 of the 60,000 dying along the way).
