I just finally caught up on a lot of chats over the last week(s?). I scrolled down, wrote these paragraphs to copypasta into chat - but with so much I'll now post it here for folks to engage with as they like.

I'd be willing to run some movie nights (and/or other kinds of videos like documentaries, series, etc.) - but I'd need to learn the ropes with more confidence. I've had varying success uploading movies to Gvid, zero success deleting duplicates, and little or no success with the movie poster thumbnails. IIRC, I learned how I was adding Gvid movies to the MatrixHub player. Maybe I just have to try it out now.

Zom, about corporate problems, ethics, reforms, etc. I whenevered a fascinating discussion from Our Interesting Tymes (Richard Parker on Corporate Personhood and Power (1:40:10)).

Is Zombuggary just a sub-category of necrophilia?

The bonus points rigging is still unclear, unexplained, unnecessarily complex and confusing - and even if many of us get used to it, new folks still won't like it. I'm for hiding the bonuses in the algo, and let the untampered appreciation votes speak clearly - and maybe you can have an (i)nfo hover button to show the hidden ranking and how the algo works. One good thing about the current bonus points rig exposed - we can call out glitches to fix. Another new idea: colour code the submit buttons - if you made one comment make the buttons red, then two comments amber, then three comments for green.

I also dislike hiding the chat side-posts list, IMO a failed feature. Engagement forcing is a turnoff. Another way to engage people is get their feedback on ideas, features, etc. Whether through polls, discussion, fishing for ideas, etc. Working with community feedback is better than forcing stuff on folks. If they don't respond, try again, because it could be unfortunate timing. Not everyone is available all the time, every day, all week.

No one, including D3, needs to be a dick. It's not only sad if you think it's funny, it's low effort, low I.Q., and enshittification of culture that most of us claim to resist. Regardless of colour, identity, or race - niggers are shitty people - socially or otherwise. Don't be a nigger. Whether you just visit or call this site your home, try to maintain a modicum of decency. This is why and how we can have nice things.

Banning/blocking bP's further abusive usage is understandable, but I don't approve how beenPoisoned's history of content is gone/deleted. Further, not having transparency nor explaining bans of community members, misbehaving or not, (not to be confused with spam), was a HUUUUUGE problem with magnora7's administration. Idea: You could colour-code a banned account's background to indicate it's state.

x0x7: He only came on because he's upset he lost saidit and wants to make sure no one else can run a site if he can't

Unless he explicitly said that, I doubt it. Perhaps he's wistful for glory days, but I believe he has other demons and issues and is inexcusably behaving reprehensibly. After the 2008 crash I learned the hard way how not to deal with life's lemons. We're about to suffer another great paradigm shift.

x0x7: But his input only exists to give himself reputation which to expend on attacking the site, and try to look like the good guy

IMO, you're injecting your own theories of motives here.

x0x7: He's not trying to help.

Perhaps. Or maybe he's trying to help in the most unproductive manner. He might even be pushing and pulling at the same time, externalizing his internal conflicts. Also, we all often misinterpret or project intentions behind constructive criticism - or any other limited keyboard communications. And of course momentum and snowballing may occur.

bP is also retarded for "wanting to punish" the admin for curating a troll-free environment, if true.

People respect d3rr - but he hasn't been that person nor alias for a long long time. And now it's just sad. A redemption story would be nice to see.

Mittens was Musky's alt on SaidIt. I don't recall saying it was socks, tho perhaps in jest, as clearly re-use of that alias is a jest. It seems mittens is weegs from SaidIt, who seems schizophrenic. Edward is crazy too.

x0x7: If it was JC that was a mistake on my part to believe it. That guy thinks everyone is socks.

I don't think everyone is socks/pumpkin from SaidIt. I don't know who is. Some folks sound like socks sometimes - including HKP (on SaidIt: Jackalope, Hong Kong Phooey, HKP, and others)/dog (on Matrix: (cartoon) dog) and pumpkin (on Matrix) who confusingly goes by dog in MatrixHub movie chat. I don't recall questioning other users. "socks" is a pejorative.

Fuck old socks.
Fuck new socks.
Fuck all the socks and anti-social disruptive behaviour.

x0x7: D3 apparently reported the crimes to the copyright po po

If true, that is just stupider than stupid. There's not much worse. It is literal violence when you invite and employ the monopoly on violence and coercion to force anything that should be civilly solved with words. Also, this is why we need transparency. It shouldn't be necessary, but I'm sure we can figure out other movie night solutions.

x0x7: Or he could go to voat like he's demanding my site be.

It is profoundly idiotic to want sites to be the same but divided. If anything, we should want more sites with more ways of doing things. Diversity has both strength and weakness. Conformity is just banal and flavourless.

x0x7: What ultimately triggered all this is I tried to make an indication that having manners is good because I'd prefer this place to not be a shithole like voat.

Of all the pros and cons about GoatMatrix, IMO this is among the greatest features - fundamental civil respect. If one day we get SaidIt2.com going (not as competition, but as optional decentralized diversity with inter-cooperation) this will be a top priority.

You have to remember that I have his submissions to the site feedback, so I have more data with which to "infer" motive. Not so much infer, as simply read what he's written. He's been entirely two faced this entire time.

All of his posts are in a dugout table. I'll get them all back besides what was posted after ban evasion. I had a busy day the next day and it was the end of the day and I needed to take care of it quickly. And by it I mean lock everything down really quick in response to someone who has been issuing threats to the site in one channel and being chummy in another. And that meant using the available tools to get him off the site, on account that he wasn't willing to accept a ban that he 100% earned and he knows that.

That was the point for him. To earn a ban in one channel that's private, and look innocent in channels that are public. This is what trolls do. But keeping him around would just be keeping an antagonist around the site longer, and so once he earned a just ban, perfect, he's gone. I know Neol said that I created drama right before I left. I'm not trying to be corrective of Neol, but just clairify, I was responding to drama he was trying to force. I want drama minimalism. That's why trolls can't really be a part of our culture. Trolls will always create situations that require drama. That's their point. The way to minimize it is to have fewer trolls on the site in general. I gave him a chance. I gave him a chance well past the point that I recognized that he was choosing to be a problem, hoping either that he would change his tune, or that I could indicate the problem to others and he would get negative social feedback realizing being a troll here wouldn't get him points with this crowd. If we want a nice website, not voat, and not censored, then social feedback has to be the medium. And it can't just come from me.

Most of us a pro-freespeech. We all don't like the lemmy model or the reddit model. So what this site really is is a claim that the social model of making a site nice should be enough. It's not a proven thesis. But we should try. But trolls who claim to be for free speech are going to try to disprove that model. Who knows, maybe they are right. They are going put forward the proposition, censor me or have nothing decent. But I want to believe the social model has a shot. But that requires a consistency, that trolls aren't cool.

Trolls are going to come, and eventually they are going to escalate until they do something actually worthy of a ban. That's what they do. And their hope is to damage the rep of the admin in trying to bait a ban. Don't give them that satisfaction or you will just get more trolls, because they can see that their behavior did something of consequence.

Better is that when one actully does get a ban, it's uncerimoneous. It just happens and people move on. Best is if they lose social steam with the community for their trolly behavior well early and get bored before they ever escalate to something that gets them a ban. This is what I wish the site could do.

JC, I'm going to send you a priv chat about one request, if you can look at that. https://goatmatrix.net/chat/aGKVGZ

I couldn't agree more. (Too bad zyxzevn and folks like them haven't come here yet.)

Whether it was an asstroll's joke threat or he really did contact copyright authorities, that is beyond ban-worthy. If/when I ever get a forum up, because I believe people may improve I have an idea for an expiring three strikes system. Now I must revise it, as a ban for that kind of threat should not expire.

Freedom of speech (and reach) does not mean freedom of abuse, conflict, harm, and noise.

Better is that when [a troll] actually does get a ban, it's unceremonious._

Agreed. History complicated this one. Profoundly great shame. Another sad day for what was SaidIt.

Well, yeah, it was more correct to say he started drama and you continued it, but really I meant it could be easily predicted the drama would continue while you would be offline, that's what I meant by "unwise".

You may do as you please on your site. But I would be highly entertained to have these posts shared and he be unbanned, for the sake of drama. I do love a good internet drama.
