Many of the folks here are “one best way” technicians who are incapable of seeing other perspectives. These technicians fantasize endlessly about the “perfect persons” for this site in a quest to build the perfect echo chamber.
The endless fantasizing warned me a long time ago… I joined but did not participate. This isn’t a vacation home, it’s more like the wood shed or dog house. I’m not one of their “perfect”people.
I am not holding out hope that these folks will learn that managing user diversity will be one of the keys to growth.
Oh yeah it can be. Every one has a different idea of what a vacation is. Watching weak people squirm in the face of their gayness is a vacation to me. I could retire to it.
I think trying to curate a site for the right people is pointless. In some cases it's just an excuse for the core userbase to be thin-skinned and censorious.
The truth is that what site people choose to be on results in selections and divisions of people. More reddit alternatives generally means more gradations in quality, and quality seems to favor the fringes. You shouldn't worry much about whether the core userbase here wants you, honestly. But it's a shame saidit had to die so suddenly.
When poal was started a certain amount of users left voat. This created a selection that separated users into distinct groups — one who preferred a site that was deeply sketchy but had more users, and the other who preferred a site that was moderately sketchy but had less users. Though the choice seemed minor, the difference in quality between these two groups was observable.
Voat kept most of its users from leaving, and so remained the default hate reddit alternative. But to the chagrin of voat's owner or owner's handlers, poal was of decidedly better quality and rapidly became the real scene. They were failing to contain the opposition.
The voat handlers eventually decided to cut their losses. They observed that being the default hate reddit alternative while being continually bled of their more intelligent users made voat a corral for a very large herd of low IQ people.
They made the decision to close voat in order to flood poal with the entire mass of low IQ users they had unwittingly accumulated. In truly jewish fashion, they scheduled their "gift" for the goyims favorite holiday celebrating the birth of their savior.
All of this happened before AOU was even in charge. People always like to talk about how AOU banned them for a joke and whatnot, but what truly killed the site was this influx of users. You may not believe me on that. But any person of reasonable quality who goes to join poal now will find themselves among uninteresting, humorless, and unintelligent people and want to leave because of that long before AOU can ban them for a joke. Well, maybe not you, yogurtstains, but most people. In short, there was little AOU could have done, short of closing poal to new account registration immediately after voat's closure was announced. But that would've been a Godlike judgement call, and possibly not even his decision.
STDs were also a factor.
Anyway, the same thing obviously happened with saidit. The timing of it is pretty suspect.

Actually, I was invited by boobs early on, but stayed due to the size. A smaller community is easier to learn about everyone and easier to filter out the joos. Specially one where the admin is on par with that mentality. Boobs was, aou wasn't, but they cancelled each other out. After boobs left I was unable to return due to a shift in culture due to admin. Ongoing jokes are like legends. They generally came about for a reason.
