It's monetary systems. People have to work because survival is a logistical problem. It doesn't go away when you add more people. In communism you are a slave to the system as well because any extra effort you give does not reward you, unless you still have a system with inequality. The monetary system modifies a pure free market into one where if people's production over time becomes in excess of needs you can just wealth transfer the excess to a few who are close to the money printer.
