Even in the Rave days of the 90s we used Charleston moves. 20 years ago at Burning Man and so forth the shuffle thing was evolving. Much of shuffle is simply contrasting opposite directions and/or illusory balance/center of gravity (akin to forms of breakdancing), while flow and/or staccato punctuation seem less important (though better dancers incorporate all the things).
It makes you wonder if a lot of the themes of dance remain the same even across sub-cultures, did cave men ever Charleston? Did cave men ever do jump style?
