Absolutely zero tax dollars should go toward brainwashing that encourages group think.

I mentioned in this thread that if I had to put tax dollars toward something I'd have education vouchers on the list. I didn't say I'd want to fund a lot. $500 a year can buy a lot of brilliant.org. Education material is virtually free. If all forms of education have equal access to federal funds and loan programs and students are looking to get the most bang out of the budget they are going to find efficient forms of education. And once they do that we're going to find students can get more bang than they can handle for a few thousand dollars. Not tens of thousands. And once money flows to the more efficient options it will get economy of scale and become more efficient. We may find a few thousand dollars is enough for someone's entire education. I would say K-bachelors but we have to admit that K-5 is a daycare. And that's not as easily scaled as educational material is.

A decent education platform would be cheaper and be less technical to build than ChatGPT was. That's currently running at $20/mo. $20/mo for 17 years is $4,080. I'm not suggesting they use ChatGPT. I'm saying if you had $20/mo from every student in the country you could build an education system that could outperform the average teacher. It could have accountability and assignments and everything else that works. The fact that 90% of the material would be reusable would mean your costs are many multiples lower than ChatGPTs. And the fact that ChatGPT exists and you don't have to be the one to build it means personalized instruction and help is possible that you wouldn't even get that much of in a classroom.

So if you gave students a $1,000 voucher a year you'd be over supplying them by a factor of four. But that's 1/15th what we currently spend.

Education is free. Teaching is a jobs program.

I'd vote for x0x7 for the school board!

Selina, one of my freedom friends, is going to try to get on the board. Protesting the woke and sexualization in schools we've not had good luck with them.

Ever read The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson? It used to be crazy sci-fi. Now aspects of it seem upon us. I often think of things from that powerful book.

That's a great book.

I dunno. University is shit in many ways, but at least it's in-person and somewhat social. Do we really want to atomize young adults in academia into isolated individuals? Remember what happened when teaching went online during Covid? All the crazy pro-authoritarian paranoias and trooning out that happened in isolation.

I'm just saying that's one model the money once freed can chase. Once the money is freed it will chase whatever has value. If organizing learning pods or in person instruction is what gives the most value per dollar money will be spent on it.

But it's also possible that people pursue a social life independent of education. Part of the problem with the lost generation is not only did they "learn" on zoom, which is worse than any other kind of online learning; They were also told they have to stay home and avoid their friends.

I think we agree in the severe inequality in educational opportunities in many countries.

But I think a good education encourages the opposite of group think. An education is about teaching people how to teach themselves, about teaching critical thinking, logic, rhetoric, grammar, mathematics, geometry, biology, philosophy, etc. It would be about knowledge and skills acquisition. It's about one's future. It's the most important component for building a healthy society. And yet, it's been the first resource on the chopping block in the US since the 1970s. It's normally underfunded. It's often the excuse for major corporations to seek cheaper labor from abroad. It's why a wealthy oligarchy controls US politics. Lack of funding for education is a leading factor in the destruction of the US as an economic and social superpower.

The organizers started moving as soon as they detected a mere hint of encouragement to independent thought. 😄
