They want to lower costs because then more would buy the food. The govt gives farmers subsidies so they'll keep prices high. Farmers would compete with each other by lowering prices if this was capitalism with supply and demand and no govt to tip the scale with trillions of borrowed money. Food could be basically free cuz it's so cheap to produce with technology now. But the elites want the poor and middle class to not have upward Mobility so they do all they can to hurt the economy. We'd have deflation and why do mainstream economists always say deflation would be bad. It'd be great.
