I agree. Being able to blame a politician a little closer to home, but still being able to do nothing about it, isn't that much of a benefit.
You've got to pair any representative government with at least some amount of direct democracy. Or you are just handing a blank check to people you don't really control to do whatever they want. They'll play chicken and say you only have 50:50 odds of voting me out and if you do you'll just get an equally bad option. And it's not like anything bad happens to them personally if they lose. It's worth it for them to rob the hen house with those prospects. So they will. And both parties will.
Thus a pure representative democracy doesn't work. It's structure is a setup for corruption.
Uk is part of a commonwealth, is the commonwealth voluntary? Meaning can a country declare independence if they want? When it was an empire and the colonies tried to leave they went to war.
People of uk all 99% wanted brexit cuz economy was trash , immigrants took jobs, Muslims cut off heads in the streets. Millions were protesting in the streets and calling for brexit. A revolution was coming, so they had to do something. This was happening all over the world not just UK. They finally allowed uk to leave EU in January 2020, did covid shortly after to keep the economy from flourishing right away. And raised interest rates everywhere. Otherwise that'd be a huge positive change we could see.
Here's the thing tho the elites give us two choices of both bad candidates. If one betrays them and does good they get jfk'd. The thing about brexit is the elites want to centralize, have one world govt. that's the ideal. But if they can't have that, they'll settle for controlling two sides of a conflict. So UK and EU are separate things but just on paper.
It seems that mostly nothing changed after Brexit. For better or worse.
But if they remained Brussels would have kept trying to extract from wealthier countries to prop up unnecessary state spending in poorer ones. That alone wouldn't have an immediately felt impact. But over the long term that kind of extraction matters. Their economy would become less capital based.
