When the original VOAT Prime dissolved, goats were scattered to the winds. Since the breakup and dissolution of VOAT Prime, most of us have been attached to one of three spin-off projects, a few, like myself, have logons to each of the VOAT Prime spinoffs.
I've undertaken an effort to "Unite the Clans"... I'm making an internal public declaration of what this project is, and what this project isn't.
The main focus of this project is to reunite, as best as possible, each of the three spin-off groups. Out of the gate, there will NOT be an effort to consolidate sites into one specific VOAT website. The focus will be on getting as many goats as possible to establish logons at each of the spinoff sites. So you ask, "What does this buy us?"
The goal is to keep us together as a group across the three spinoff sites. The specific benefit will be that if one of the spinoff sites goes tits-up, goats can default to one of the two remaining active sites. Further consolidation means We'll be back to having one site again.
In my estimation of the three spinoff sites, one leads the pack in terms of user base size. The other two are maintaining and slowly growing their current user base. I don't have hard numbers as to the active participating members of each site, so I gave you my interpretation of each sites standing. (I could be wrong...)
I ask that goats support this initiative by establishing and maintaining logons at each of the three sites, and ideally, spend time at each of the sites, so that we even up the user bases among the three sites.

I'm not a Goat. I'm not a SaidItor anymore either. Fuck the completely unnecessary abrasive asstrolls and inept mismanagement. I won't engage timesucks or rudderless projects with no goals, evolution, or improvement.
That said, I'm all for decentralizing and networking. Selectively.
Figure out a way to cross pollinate content (databases that can be shared and archived), whether as the Deplorable side of the Fediverse or whatever, and I may participate.
Figure out a way to filter out the noise for elevated discourse, with the option to occasionally see what gutter-dwellers are doing, and I'll certainly participate. I'd even be willing to host another instance.
If you can solve this problem, not only would you get me, you'd get thousands like me. Whether from Reddit or elsewhere. People justifiably hate Reddit crap and hate Voat/4chan crap. SaidIt was first called Anti-Extremes, but it slid to shit as it was a poorly managed refuge to a few conspirophiles largely banned from Reddit and many more mostly banned for poor behaviour - and later just for being not-Left. You might want to loop SaidIt into your network scheme - though magnora7 is technically incapable of improving the site and I doubt if his ego would ever share it as an archive. I think he's a controlled op. He certainly acts like one.
Should I make a utility that can cross post? It wouldn't be hard. Like an extension that adds check boxes to the forms of each site to post to extra places in the community. I'd just have users paste in an API key from here, and other sites could also give API keys.
Sort of like federation but letting the users decide where their posts go. I think I could do it as a userscript instead. A userscript is probably better because it's more sandboxed and easier to glance at the code.

I like that idea! I think that could be a game changer! We'd need to have the three site owners talk IRL, as a courtesy, so that no one steps on anyone else's project. Also, how does your code get around direct user logins? Also, how does replying to comments and receiving comments on other sites work? I say let's put it in writing, and shop it to the other site owners, and see if we can get this bitch off the ground! Thanks for volunteering this solution.

Ok. New method of raising donations. We steal dwb's idea of setting up an OF.

What are your thoughts on putting the current sites (MATRIX, SEARCHVOAT, UPGOAT) behind a single log-on portal called "GoatVerse", that handles the validation of users and then let's the user choose which door they want to enter after login validation, either MATRIX, SEARCHVOAT, UPGOAT, potentially FlingUP and any other affiliated like-minded sites, Each site keeps control of the Administration of their own site? Interested in your thoughts...
That would require partnership from others. More so than the extension. They would have to accept the auth. And what happens when someone bombs a username in the traditional auth for one site making it so the secondary auth has a naming conflict?
To access through the GoatVerse front door (The Main Portal to each of the underlying participating sites) Users don't get to make a new ID, their augmented existing ID follows them (see examples below).
Anyone creating a brand new ID could be checked against a master database of existing ID's, and if an ID is already registered (First come/First Serve basis), they get rejected at registration, and they have to create a new ID which gets logged into a postgres (or equal) database. So if I try to login from Upgoat, and some asshat created an iSnark id at Matrix, they would get an error that that id is already in use, and they would need to create a new id.
Can you programmatically append a multi-digit numerical code to each distinct user id which is registered into a postgres (or Equal) database to differentiate them. So when a user from another site logs into the GoatVerse portal entrance with their unique id at the main portal entrance to the individual sites, they are assigned an enhanced ID that distinguishes them from others when they post, they are represented by their "passport" ID?
