He fabricated a set of off the shelf assembly components from raw materials, and assembled them.

I'm close to certain a knowledgeable person could simply order the components from McMaster Carr and assemble them in their garage.

The main problem is figuring out the description of any given component, but you can call them. Their techs know about a ridiculous number of names of very specific components.

I should have looked into a job as one of their phone techs for a year or so early in my career. I'm sure I would have become a arcane wizard of engineering components and sub-assemblies.

A person would have a lot of exposure to everything out there.

However, Im not sure he'd find a three point base like he designed, because they're safety liabilities for any manufacturer.

Because they tip over. It's a decent idea with a flawed design.
