@JasonCarswell immediate post with +3 are you jelly?

I'm just annoyed we still don't have the rules outlined, or better - the reasons for any rules in the first place.
He said he communicated it.
I'm still very unclear.
Why is it inconsistent?
Just keep it simple.

Forcing me to look at a limited amount of content here will force me to seek more elsewhere, thus spend less time on Goat. I'm not going to engage further with content I've already seen or passed over.
Forcing me to share only 2 or maybe even 4 posts a day is going to make me give up posting when I come across a dozen great things a day on average - some days less, some more.
The hard limits were not gradual nor explained. Easing into it would have been better, with soft words and lube.
More importantly, I don't know why this is being implemented.

It's literally there on the page. It's a comment bonus. Make three comments more recent than your last post and your next post gets extra. It's like charging a plasma pistol in Halo, except you are helping the site with the metric it needs most. It's in the hover over.

I'm thinking about either nerfing it or adding one more requirement. Proposed: One of the three comments has to be the first comment. That way we get more conversations started, which is the real metric needed. That will also make it more rare and so it won't hurt non-boosted posts as much.

It's literally there on the page.

Where?
I haven't see it.
Lots of room for so much information that could be shared.

  • Forum management objectives and goals
  • Forum roadmap plans
  • Goatdown (Matrixdown might be confused for other matrix-named software)
  • How boost points work (show the algo)
  • How post-whenever works (show the algo and controls)
  • Option to cross-post extant content without taking boost points, or going to front page
  • More

Let the votes speak for themselves to maintain qualitative purity.
Have the boost points be a separate thing as they reflect participation, not votes.

I'm still not convinced we need undeclared/unmarked boost points.
If you made 17 comments one day and none for 5 days - depending how you view it, that participation is not rewarded or is wasted, but it may be the only participation you can do with your limited time.

Most importantly, I don't recall seeing it explained why we even need this type of participation. It's been declared, and we're to assume it's correct. Maybe it is. It's certainly affecting the flow of the front page. I/we would like to understand why - and for how long. Is this a test run? Will it be modified or change, and when/why? Have you asked for feedback, even if little or none of it is helpful, or maybe you'd be surprised? Brainstorming is good.

My front page displays 21 posts. I'd like to make a preferences feature request: change post number on front page. (ie. 10| 20 | 50 | 100) All in one page makes it easier to keep track of, and depending on the device and usage will determine your choice.

Another feature request: "new" be a graphic with white text on red. This would make it easier to see new content to read and perhaps respond to. (I search for "new" and they all highlight - along with "news" and "world news".)

Why not just leave the points as is but have a dynamic multiplier based on recent comment point totals that alters post ordering?

[-]JasonCarswell1(+1|0)

Yes. Back-end the boosts. Leave the earned points alone.

[-]RickSanchez2(+2|0)

To bad there is no Karma being tracked.

[-]JasonCarswell1(+1|0)

It probably is, or can be.

More importantly, is it even a feature that deserves priority?

IMO, there's other things deserving attention more.
