My father was obsessed with DNA matching. I losely know the guys that run GEDMatch through him. He knows them very well. GEDMatch doesn't have the same population as some of the other sites, but you can bring your SNPs from any other company and it gives you much more hands on analysis. If someone agrees to share it with you you can compare the SNPs yourself. Or they have many more matching algs you can run from the site against their whole database. A lot of them are intentionally over sensitive or give you the option to set it really sensitive. Depending on what cetimorgan threshold you set you can get matched with speculative matches, 20% odds or so, and then work with the match to compare trees and see if you do have a match. Point is you can find more people if you set the thresholds low enough with the expectation that people are willing to put in the work to confirm it another way. Everyone who uses GEDMatch is a try hard so people are down to do that.

That's the point. It's a good way to get connected with a serious researcher that might have a whole lot of your tree complete.

My mother was also a very serious genealogy researcher. One issue she mostly dealt with was improving the quality of data on the various sites. The issue is that people often make a lot of dubious connections on their trees. That's another reason why finding a family connection with a serious researcher on GEDMatch can be handy. They'll know what data on My Heritage is real or fake because they'll have their own tree running locally in RootsMagic with all the data properly sourced.

I do have an account with gedmatch. I definitely need to use it.

Also, I'm hoping more of them take it. I've already matched with some of them on my heritage!
