I'm about to start my own meetup organization. I've been a deputy organizer of another group since the start of the year. It's just far and not efficiently run. So I want to make my own thing closer.

Typically when you run one of these orgs you want to have different kinds of meetings to keep things interesting. Recently in this other group we needed to plan a meetup very last minute because we wanted to take advantage of our last chance to use a particular location before that company was changing offices to one that would be harder to host us.

This type of meetup ended up being called Dev and Debug. And it's my favorite thing. Not only because it went well, we talked about actual code, and people actually talked to each other instead of sitting through a presentation. But also because it took absolutely no planning time on my part.

So what is the activity? You mostly focus on the younger programmers and you ask them to share what they've been working on and what recent changes they've made. What problem required the changes? Do they still feel like they are struggling for a solution? Then we have a room full of experienced programmers give them advice.

It's like an anti-presentation. Instead of having one expert give a presentation to many people you have one non-expert recieve mentorship from an entire room of experts. It's fun.

Best part is it's free content. I don't have to hunt down a speaker and either encourage them to prep a presentation, or find one that has one already to go, or worse, have to prepare something myself. If anyone in the room has made any edits to code in the last 24 hours we have guaranteed content, no effort.

Now for the final tricky part. Naming. Because I'm going to be starting a new org, possibly have less time for the current one, steal some common attendees, and maybe even a few co-organizers from another org, the last thing I want to do is be unoriginal and steal names too.

So what would you call this meeting. I went ahead and got some names from ChatGPT but I'd appreciate some feedback on what people think are actually good.

That anti-presentation is a neat idea. I'm prepping for a May 18 event/party for freedom folks. At the very least it is to keep the freedom flame alive but I was just saying yesterday we need ways to better networking, community building, and resilience devices (Address books, economics alternatives, employment networks, food resources, health alternatives, media production, rallies, services, teaching, etc.).
