I for one am for bot vetting. Each new user has to prove they are in fact human and if not they get banned. This includes checking to see if they admit to having a cum sock or if they can tell the difference between a boat and a woman.
Well this is an ironic post. That's exactly what I'm looking to do. But the very useful question is being posted by the one person who is poster child for the opposite side of the issue.
Here are my tips. Don't be mopey. Don't use complaining as your only formula for social interaction for lack of any other strategy. This is exactly what a mid-teens do. Angry at everything all the time. They wouldn't know what to say otherwise.
Don't encourage mediocrity in others. I think the pyramid of debate was flawed but the general premise of trying to move in the direction of higher quality is a good idea. It's all about what direction you are headed in, and what direction you head others in. The world is a war of cultures. If you see a culture that lowers people to chase a less developed version of themselves you have a responsibility to make your own culture prevail against that one. Cool people read a room and figure out how to be cool in it. Cooler people aren't interested in being perceived as cool but define what cool is. Advanced people are selective about this. If you are an advanced person make advanced culture cool. Because less advanced people have an interest in making being less advanced cool. All cool is is what society rewards. And if you don't make an active effort in defining what society rewards less advanced people will win. Then you have a choice between being less than your full self and cool, or being your full self an uncool. Or you can get ahead of the problem and define how your society operates ahead of them. Then you can be cool by being your most advanced self.
Advanced societies reward skill, thought, tact, all dimensions of development, balance, positive interactions, self improvement, effort. POS societies try to survive the presence of superior people, who have an advantage over them, by creating solidarity around indentifers of POS culture. They signal using anything that can indicate they are a piece of shit. This is why rap music needs to communicate that the person performing is in fact a hood rat gangster.
Everyone is trying to signal to everyone else that they have value. But value in what tribe or in what mode of civilization? If POS value cues dominate then others see that the formula for being valued in that society is to mirror those POS value cues. Then POS culture is locked in and that collection of people is neutralized as a serious threat because the group is self defeating.
So then how do we stop mediocrity like you said? First we start with free speech. But you can't leave it at that. Then you also downvote and don't socially reward POS culture.
Rolling around in mud is fun. But living in mud doesn't make your life better. Your environment is constructed by you. Construct it with some thought. Any time a website grows it can always pivot in any direction. If you plan to be here for a while you have an opportunity to set what your environment will look like. But you probably only have a small window to do it in. Think long term. Do you want a constructive environment for yourself or a destructive one?
The world is going to get crazy, with AI and all that. You probably want all of your environments to be constructive just to keep up. But having that environment is going to take the nerve to dis-value some POS value cues, which isn't always fun. I encourage you to have that nerve.
People are easily manipulated. That's why clickbait ragebait works so well. When we learn to ignore it, things get better. I found that on saidit, if I /ignored just a few of the top ragebait posters that only say stuff like "I hate jews/trannies/blacks/etc." constantly and always being at the bottom of the pyramid of debate, it was a much better place. They probably only do it since it's a rebound effect from reddit being so strong-armed in censorship, but you can't dwell on that stuff forever.
I noticed a few of them on here I had not seen in a long time since they were ignored, and they usually just like to stir up trouble and the first one to call to ban people. Making a nice and productive forum isn't about forceful censorship and curating people, but about knowing who and what to respond to, and what to ignore because it doesn't provide any value. People have a big problem knowing what to ignore.
I recommend we utilize polls to determine who earns a "GAY" (trolls) or "BOT" badge in bright warning colours that are easier to ignore. Hopefully he doesn't show up but socks can have his own bright caution badge too. Maybe the intensity of the colours could reflect the intensity of the ratio. If 100 users voted then clearly 51:49 is mild and with 99:1 it's obvious no one likes them.
Easily exploited with bots and stuff. Ever notice how on reddit, whenever you call out a bad company or product, you get an army of downvoters and argue-bots swarming to bury your comments and posts?
Even if something was "50:50", it may show up as 95:5 because people tend to focus on the negative, so most people don't upvote something relevant, but people will always make time to downvote something that hurts their fragile feelings.
They once asked who we thought was evil. I answered Bill Gates and got 33 downvotes. He started the evil Microsoft Monopoly, fake meat with chemicals in it, flawed vaxes that kill people, and only fund schools so they can get Microsoft tech.
Excellent point about the bots and swarms. But before they arrive it's even more critical to set up defenses while we are still able to.
As I've said here and on SaidIt, we need to develop a TrustedTeam™ of folks who have earned our trust to maintain the culture we want. We certainly don't have to agree on everything, but we can all agree that the folks included have earned enough respect to deserve a say in how the community steered and defended. Some may argue it will end up like Reddit - but besides the fact that none of us are woke, retarded, and/or afraid to call out fallacies, etc. - we also don't want it to end up like 4chan, Poal, Voat, or other places that already exist/existed. Why be the same? We can be different, with some similarities and/or distinctions worth protecting. Every site is an experiment - the difference is whether it's intentionally managed or accidentally mismanaged.
Yes, many folks let feelz overrule logix - but that may be another discussion.
Dude I just got here, but I got to say, you're reply to x0x7's genuinely thoughtful, respectful response is itself "mid teen mediocre dribble". LOL. Also: cum sock? Sure, kiddo.
Nah man, I was at saidit for a bit. its was lame. It was like a teen girl gossip centre, for teen boys with no testosterone. I just stopped going there subconsciously and forgot because it was so uninteresting.
Im here to have fun, not read a boring novel about puberty problems.
Well, physical, mental, emotional age and all that. Im an old man too, but I still impregnate a woman just by staring hard enough.
I've known of X0 for years. We have even spoken several times in the past and he just doesn't remember because its infrequent. Also 95% of the time I use the same user name and here I did not, so there is a natural dissociation. Anyway, hes irrelevant unless he turns any of his gayness onto the site itself directly.
Dude - at Saidit almost everybody has bitched at almost everybody, but I've never seen anyone cast any shade at x0, ever, because there's never been a reason to do so. IDK why you've got to insist on insults for him in particular, especially when you are such a legend that you can "impregnate a woman just by staring hard enough." Anyway, I'm new here; I should expect surprises.
Uh.. Hes a limp wristed linux fan boy who cum guzzles from the new age of techs tiny dong? His favourite type of dong. Pretty sure most of saidit was like that. Most of the internet is these days, considering its al bots and corporate faggotry now. So it only makes sense the impressionable youth of today with nothing going for them would follow along
Acknowledging ones greatness is a good way to be. This is good. You are being a good dog. You can have a treat. Um...
Thanks for this, and the compliment and generous treat. I see you've obviously done thorough research. I'd recommend a long walk in a field or forrest, or up a mountain, or around a lake, or a swim in a lake. I love walks. Life's too short.
I already live in the mountains for this reason. Although youd be dumb to swim in the lakes here this time of year. Although maybe it is time for some blood letting.
I'm trying to create the substack of reddit alternatives. People are going to create long form content. If you don't like that you are welcome to leave.
I have seen at least one comment on a post of mine that i'm sure was a bot.
As for the culture of teenage mediocrity, can you really stop that? Other than locking down new account registration during these big exodus periods, you can't really stop an influx of new users from changing the culture of a site like this.
Think about Poal. People always blame the admin, but the real thing that killed Poal was getting buried in low IQ users from the voat shutdown.
There is a lot that can be done about that. But it really helps if the admin and the users are on the same page. Every site has two important filters. One is a bias in who actually signs up and starts participating. Remember that you always have 10x the lurkers than actual participants. You also have 10x the people who see a site compared to lurkers who stick around. Which culture thinks it's worth signing up?
The other filter is who leaves. Everyone leaves at some point. But the question is who leaves in a month and who leaves in 5 years and is there a cultural bias in that?
It takes effort to shape culture. You can't just say "I guess we'll get who we get," and end up with the culture you want. You have to actively market to the kinds of people you want. And the admin and the users have to push for the kind of place they want. And if a forum is free speech their only lever is social initiative. It's the harder way to do it but it is the better way to do it.
The site ends up being more marketable than you think to the right groups if it already looks that way. If people help me make this an intelligent place instead of an asshole pit I can then multiply that. But if all I have to my name is an asshole pit how am I going to market that to smart people? People get to choose which site they want. If the asshole pit thing happens I can't make the site higher IQ if I wanted to. Improvement begets improvement. Error begets error.
The system you have here, specially now that saidit is here in higher numbers, is just post fatepeoplehate schism reddit. People will down vote content entirely based on the user, regardless of the content. My bug report for + links has -2 down votes. There is no reason for this other than people dislike the user. I post a lot of normal stuff, like my very first sub post just being one of my favourite pieces of music, -1. This is something someone like jewbot jason would do, as he has admited to doing in the chat and as he did at saidit.
For this reason alone, this site will die to mediocrity. Eventually I will get bored too and leave it, despite whatever the ex poal guys try to do to get me back.
How to solve it? Strangely enough, I kinda like what poal TRIED to do, but you can't enforce it. One of the other sites removed down votes entirely, which could work. You could just have voting have no influence, but meh. There's not much you can do other than to revert back to old forum days where where voting was just a visual thing. In the end, if you let shit users do what they want, you get a shit site. And if you think Im a shit user, good luck then.
I upvote passably good and great content.
I don't vote on meh content.
I downvote bad content.
I won't vote in favour of or against users - as every post and comment is already content, users may improve over time, and ultimately users are never binary good or bad.
I dont know how long Ill last. Specially since the rest of saidit is here now. I sort of feel like Im the only one here swinging a chainsaw. We need more chainsaw.
And this is why I was trying to lay down the foundations in something of a mostly-permanent constitution as a referential touchstone for LeverMind.net, as is messily unfinished outlined and road-mapped on Projex.Wiki.
Also, in response to magnora7's absent/mis-managament, another theoretical development is/was to aggregate a TrustedTeam™ of respectable users that have earned their trusted status over time. Despite the wild west nature of SaidIt, there were still many who maintained decorum and wisdom in the face of banal stupidity. The TrustedTeam™ would be far better able to keep watch over the masses and each other than a single admin even with a STaBs-bashing mod crew. (shills, trolls, and bots) Especially when mods were only allowed to moderate on the arbitrary-40-max of subs.
Further, with the foundations and goals clearly laid out, the marketing should come naturally.
IMO, the best course to start would be to lay out the foundations, goals, FAQ, and MatrixDown Formatting, and any other important need-to-know or common reference info on Projex.Wiki. Everything after that is gravy. And it would be very easy to develop interrelated advertising campaigns to promote GoatMatrix as well as other friendly platforms - not just to promote for growth, but to promote the culture we seek to cultivate and want to foster. Plus, when the time comes for interviews and such with "influencers" we can have ready-made press-releases, the FAQs, etc. for them to reference and know where we stand and where we intend to go. This not only makes it easier for them, but on the chance they visit the site and the front page is covered with less-than-ideal content for the moment (as inevitably sometimes crises, mass attacks, and other things will occur), hopefully they won't be too deterred and should feel confident it will be dealt with.
@x0x7 @LarrySwinger I wanted and still want assistance in developing the foundations for LeverMind.net - to be laid out before it's even opened. I'm keen to hear ideas, options, and recommendations from everyone, especially co-admins, on how to carry out that social media experiment, but obviously as the owner/admin, ultimately the direction and decisions are mine, for better or worse. All this can be dredged up again and reconsidered when some LeverMind.Production videos near completion next year.
Meanwhile, we can also be planning GoatMatrix branding and marketing - based on foundations, goals, and FAQs that need development.
@JasonCarswell. It sounds worthwhile. What if we schedule a day in advance. And then we move fast. No noting things to work on a second day. We just knock it all out. Projex too. Just tell me a day you are free. We can figure out time in private chat https://goatmatrix.net/chat/aGKVGZ
at the end of the day the admin is just a user if he’s not using admin powers to control the site (banning, rate limits, account flagging). i’m not saying those heavy-handed approaches are the right way - it certainly hasn’t worked out for poal - but if you take all those things away the admin is just one voice. the current users or core users are more voices, but with a large enough influx of people those voices can be drowned out.
if you are able to shape the culture of this place, i hope it will have at least a little room for intelligent assholes. some of my very good online friends belong to this category, and i don’t feel they should be shunned.
The admin also has increased report and there is also increased power in getting ahead of things early and anticipating things. I loved PMYB2 and there is a lot I learned from him. But there is one thing he said to me that gave me an insight of how he messed up. He said as an admin he can't share his actual opinion. He didn't want to set a bias one way or another even using soft tools like his own opinion. That is an interesting experiment but we saw it, I don't want to say it didn't work, it produced the end result it produced. This site is a different experiment.
Poal went from an admin that didn't even want to use soft tools to one that would ban someone without notice for a joke he didn't like. Never did Poal have something in between where someone tries to use nudge theory to get the result we're looking for.
I also have a lot of technical nudges. Not even bad ones. I am the guy who's into finding the way that one lever is connected to one outcome in ways they don't seem connected. Is it enough? No. That's why I need users to actively help me with culture. If you want a positive culture you can't be passive about it. And you have to be willing to be a wet blanket who rejects people who's only aim is to make the world shit. It sounds lame but it's actually just long term thinking.
I like your goals, outlines, and strategy.
It's easy to make a mess, be shitty, and complain.
It's hard to build, create, and manifest optimism.
Positivity will attract positivity.
The bigger it gets the harder it will be.
Stay the course. Hold the line.
In 2006 a popular RPG chat forum had a heavily frequently spam forum. It was shut down and literal hundreds of users ended up homeless. I started a new site with an at the time friend and we did the opposite of what boobs told you. We each held different and varying opinions openly. As long as we didnt impose those on anyone and let anyone do what they wanted, it didnt matter. The site died because you should never had two admins. Specially those with different opinions. LOL.
I was kicked off of Poal by the admin. I have a poal mug. I think the handle broke though. After boobs decided to leave all that was left was mr tiananmen square massacre and he was a true semen stain. It makes a big difference. Site leadership will break an internet comunity instantly if they are gay. And many times they are.
Forcing people to prove they are suitable for saidit by subjecting them to socks in the Introductions sub before allowing them to post anything killed onboarding of new people. I would suggest not being anal about bots unless they actually cause problems like spamming gay Mohammedan links
Then you open the door to tyrannical mods no different from Reddit, and indeed saidit was no stranger to them. Karma whoring and sucking ass to be permitted entry into a coveted community is an unreasonable amount faggotry for any mature person to be subject to. Maybe if you're a teenager in your mother's basement with boundary issues, then you might need numerous illogical criteria to meet before being granted permission to enter. What rubbish.
I have no issue with tyranny. The tyrants just have to be morally just. Right now every government is tyranical, but its all the wrong kind, doing hte wrong things. You need a good strong leader. Who speaks german.
I have found over the decades of being online, is that most basement teens, become basement adults.
If you are collecting the correct procedure is to empty the sock into a bucket. Once the bucket is full you empty it into a dumpster. Once the dumpster is full you call the dump truck company to collect and then you get a gold star of achievement. The cum star of achievement.
Well this is an ironic post. That's exactly what I'm looking to do. But the very useful question is being posted by the one person who is poster child for the opposite side of the issue.

I like this schedule-a-day idea - potentially good for projects of all sorts.
... Wait a minute... I just figured it out. You are an alt account for x0.
I know you didn't intentionally mean to flatter me, but I'll take it anyway.
Thank you for the compliment.
Nice try robot, I know hes human at least.
at the end of the day the admin is just a user if he’s not using admin powers to control the site (banning, rate limits, account flagging). i’m not saying those heavy-handed approaches are the right way - it certainly hasn’t worked out for poal - but if you take all those things away the admin is just one voice. the current users or core users are more voices, but with a large enough influx of people those voices can be drowned out.
if you are able to shape the culture of this place, i hope it will have at least a little room for intelligent assholes. some of my very good online friends belong to this category, and i don’t feel they should be shunned.
Check yourself for ticks.
I was going to say something like, check yourself for syphilis, but robots can't get STDs... Yet.
Bots don't need syphilis to get all crazy up in this shit.
... Uh... No. They need it so they die slowly and painfully.
Forcing people to prove they are suitable for saidit by subjecting them to socks in the Introductions sub before allowing them to post anything killed onboarding of new people. I would suggest not being anal about bots unless they actually cause problems like spamming gay Mohammedan links
If such a weak thing would prevent new people from being here, then good. GOOD. They are either bots, or basement dwellers.
👍
Does it count if you put the sock in the washing machine each time or do you have to collect the cum? I really should collect my cum.
If you are collecting the correct procedure is to empty the sock into a bucket. Once the bucket is full you empty it into a dumpster. Once the dumpster is full you call the dump truck company to collect and then you get a gold star of achievement. The cum star of achievement.
By banning users like @FreshYogurtFactoryStainsNotSemen.
Oh no, big mean man too much to handle, get rid of him. Oh no he say mean words.

My boat identifies as a woman you bigot.
So your boat is a robot as it is capable of thinking? And it is YOUR boat? Youre in a relationship with an AI? Youre a bot. You fail.
