I think it's already an "economic and political defeat for the United States." It's achieved nothing. It was entirely for Israel. Only 21% of Americans supported it, and that same group likely voted for Trump, so they're literally insane. Meanwhile the US debt has doubled since the time Trump took office - https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/GFDEBTN - almost $40 TRILLION, which means that the 99.99% are paying the bill for the failures of Republicans in the past decade. I'd mention the Biden Admin, but that money went to infrastructure and jobs, causing the largest job growth under any president. All of that ended with the current Israeli administration, spending so much money on bombs and nothing on Americans.
If the money is spent on the poor, it causes inflation as we saw from biden. If it's spent on the military it gets destroyed and disappears. Neither is good.
If it gets spend on the military it also creates inflation. Two ways. One is that you have more purchasers in the market competing for resources, and they aren't putting anything material on the shelf to replace it. And two, because it requires printing it dilutes the money supply.
The first one matters more than people aften talk about.
That's a good point I think we don't notice the inflation caused by military spending because it's always there, baked in, they don't even know how much they spend.
It's mostly not connected to the economy tho. Countries don't buy their weapons in a market they get them thru connections. Wars are all fake and just intended to dispose of the surplus productivity of the working class.
The Military goes to vets' pay and insurance and the GI Bill, and to federal contractors. I used to be a federal contractor for the ATCOM base in St. Louis, MO and work in provisioning and helecopter parts and the troop data. I did computer work and databases.

It'd be good to not connect insurance to a job, and especially not a war job, which gets people to support wars for money reasons.
This was during the Clinton Administration when there was peace and creating a budget surplus by downsizing the ATCOM base.
Even more of a reason to not justify that .
The elites wanted war, so did 9/11, partly because the economy was too good. Dirty poors were becoming new money. Can't have that.
