What I fear is a quasi-victory-defeat where we don't actually learn anything. We topple their government. Then we occupy the territory and inherent all of their problems for 30 years. That's a losing condition because it's not a good outcome for us. But because the current leadership in Iran "lost more" it's a victory.

Victory means you get a good outcome for yourself. This is why the Iranian's can guarantee our defeat. We can't win. The only real victory would be going directly home with zero negotiations and developing enough of a spine to tell Israel, "we don't help you when we don't feel like it." Then we'd be walking away with an improved condition.

We could win if we struck water purifiers and food storage. Do what Grant did to Atlanta and destroy their economy and water and food supply by burning it all down.

What would we win?

Stop Iran from having nukes and ending the world? Oh that's fake news. So it's just for oil? Could we win lower prices?

We would win rights to the Straight of Hormuz. Then tax ships that pass through it.

The West has threatened Iran for 40 years.
There is no chance they have not prepared.

On the chance the US does manage to take out any water or food, Iran will reciprocate and take out the food and water of US allies in the region who will suffer much much more.

The US lost their Middle East bases and will not rebuild. The Middle East will soon be called West Asia.

This "war" is a part of the managed decline and intentional collapse of the West.
Instead of one single hegemony, the world will become a multipolar globalist surveillance state.
Communism wins.
