I wonder if landlords will start burning their properties the way they did in NYC in the 70s. Rent control has never worked as far as I know.

Insurance fraud back then

When insurance fraud pays more than the government mandated set rent, you are going to lose a lot of housing to fire. More people chasing fewer apartments means the average rent will go up.

It's not like price controls for gasoline in the 70s made the process of getting gasoline cheaper. This is a consistent pattern. Price controls always produce the opposite of their intended goal.

How about 9/11 that was a big insurance fraud fire.

Does opposite, great to keep rent down.

Do you know of any place in the world where rent control lowered overall housing costs and reduced homelessness? Typically it does the opposite.

It's just used in nyc really and yes the rent controlled apartments there are factually lower rent. Common sense. Use it everywhere. It worked best with Nixon which is why they forced him out. Inflation was wild with biden and still is, need price controls on everything.

But it causes the average rent to go higher. That was his point. NYC is not a great example of cheap rents, so clearly the policy failed.

The people who get to pay low rent feel like it works. What would happen if price controls were used for literally every apartment. I guess landlords would be less likely to invest in properties if they can't make as much in profits.

What you don't realize is we already have price controls but designed to keep inflation high. They have us ignoring common sense. Look how money is created. Look at history of all of this. Food could be cheaper because of farm technology improving but the govt subsidizes farmers to keep prices higher.

You're not making sense.
