Wow, nice work. I've seen people start projects like this and never get past the pile of parts stage.

I’ve owned the car since 2003. Stored the car and collected parts. Started working on it when I retired. But not much work put in; I’m currently a snowbird and only spent winters near this car.

Retirement has three phases: Go-go years, Slow-go years, and No-go years. I’m about to start my Slow-go years. I anticipate working on this the next few years then having a few years to actually drive it before beginning my No-go years.

Woah. What kind of engine is that. I'm not a car guy so maybe my eyes are decieving me. But I'm counting 8 plugs on one side, so V16?

No…that’s 8 valve rocker arms you see. 2 valves per cylinder…it’s a V8. I’ll edit the reply with a better picture of the engine.

Edit: This is an overhauled engine. The nasty engine in the other picture is still in the car. This is how the engine looked from the factory.

What kind of specs is it going to have when it's all done?

The factory engine is a 2 bbl 289 cubic inch V8. The replacement engine is too. The camshaft in the replacement engine is hotter than the original. I also have a used 4bbl intake manifold and carburetor. I may install them later. The valve heads are from a 1968 302 V8 and have better flow characteristics (bigger valves) than the original.

From the factory, the stock engine was rated at 195 hp. With the better cam and heads, 200 hp is a safe guess. But those improvements and a 4 bbl carb should generate around 225 hp.

Transmission will be the factory C4 3 speed Cruisomatic. The original transmission is still in the car. I bought a used spare in case parts are needed for the overhaul that is not yet done.

The rear gears have been overhauled. It is 3.25:1. These cars only had 14” wheels, so the gear ratio should be do well considering the small tire size.

My stepdad would have a fit over this. His first car was a 63 Fairlane.
She seems to be coming along nicely!
