I had no idea that Vz’s debt is that high. No wonder Trump kept calling the oil “our oil.” Vz owes so much money that a lot of entities can claim ownership of the oil in the ground in Vz.

Years ago, under "sanctions", Venezuela had its gold reserves stolen by the UK.

Why any nation would store their gold in another nation is beyond me.

[-]pumpkin3(+3|0)

Yep, $2 billion gold reserves frozen in the UK. Vz supposedly owes $150 - 170 billion. But as we know, U.S. sanctions since 2014 have blocked market access, making it imposssible for Vz to raise the cash to pay loans and bonds. Trump Admin (Big Oil) expanded the santions in 2017. ConocoPhillips is owed $10b, Citgo is owed $20b, ExxonMobil is owed $1.6b, Exxon is owed $1.4 billion, and Chevron is owed money. That's of course a lot of money, but I'm not seeing debt to US BigOil as the main reason for kidnapping Maduro, though it may have been. Something bigger is at play, I would guess, and it relates to taking Vz's oil wealth (shitty quality oil). Some info.

Snopes? Really?
That's the kind of shit socks links to.

[-]pumpkin1(+1|0)

Who cares about Snopes? Complain to Larry Page at [email protected] , as his search engine located it.

[-]JasonCarswell2(+2|0)

Sometimes the source matters.
Snopes is not even among the last I'd ever use to prove a point.
And why use Google?

[-]pumpkin2(+2|0)

OK - but I think we adults can be trusted to understand what the facts are (and what they aren't) in all source material. I think that anyone (not necessarily you) telling me a substantial resource is prohibited is trying to control the narrative. To challenge a narrative, one would have to be more specific. This will be especially challenging the more we use AI (unwittingly and on purpose).

[-]JasonCarswell2(+2|0)

And I've talked about this with friends offline about the culture wars, politics, etc. - if we can't agree on definitions, facts, sources, etc. then we'll just be cross-talking and getting nowhere.

Snopes and Google may have the facts correct in many cases, but they are too unreliable to be anything but a lazy source. Nothing is prohibited, but it can be self-discredited. A.I. is another shortcut.

My opinion: try to maintain discipline while we can until we're completely swallowed up by lies.

[-]pumpkin2(+2|0)

We agree on all of this, but we also have to appreciate that we have to extrapolate from the tools available to us the least-refutable evidence and examples possible. We want to critique the lies. If you can think of other substantial tools that replace the tools that are not liked, you can also suggest those. At Saidit I've seen so many criticisms of the massive resources (google, duck duck go, CNN, the MSM, AI, Wikipedia, Reuters, etc.) but few solutions, while the preferred medium - X/twitter or NYPost - were the worst possible resources, as they are famous spreading lies.

[-]JasonCarswell2(+2|0)

Yes, we need to raise awareness about the problems but also offer alternatives, compromises, solutions, and trade-offs.

These are long, outdated, in need of organizing and overhauling, but they are a start, initially I aggregated them on SaidIt wikis but are now here and bigger:

More issues beyond tech:

That's a start.

I'm renovating a creative studio and meeting space for IRL Windsor folks anticipating classes that might cover these issues and more. All of that needs organizing, planning, curriculum, and scripting - for clear, concise, catchy communications. We could do that on Goat with Projex and maybe make videos of the classes if actually useful.

I can't do it all myself. I can make Projex user accounts for anyone who wants one, for whatever projects you like, with or without other folks' involvement.

Something to do with selling oil to terrorists, and narcoterrorism of sending drugs to the USA in speed boats.

[-]pumpkin1(+1|0)

Though there is no evidence of either.

Didn't you see the videos?

[-]pumpkin1(+1|0)

If we take over Velezuela are we inheriting the debt?

[-]GuyWhite1(+1|0)

Nah. The USA will run it as a separately incorporated subsidiary.
