This is a more obscure command I just created. Text posts here have an article mode. You can find it at the top of any text post; there is an 'article' link. That will display the post as an article. In theory, you could start a blog here. I sometimes use it to post my text posts around the internet.
Sometimes these articles feel a little naked and or bare. So it can be handy to post an image at the top to liven it up a little. Matrixdown supports inline images, so that's easy enough. But that can look odd when viewing it as a text post. So I made a new command.
!ARTICLEIMG https://img.gvid.tv/img/4YWtsToB.jpg
This will make an inline image that is invisible in a text post but visible when viewed as an article. I'm sure everyone is going to be using it. It's mostly relevant to people sharing Goatmatrix articles elsewhere. It's a great way to promote the site for anyone who wants to get more traffic here, while dodging insta-downvotes that can come from linking to another reddit-like site.
But I do think one day there may be some genuine interest from people wanting to write blog like content without having to set up one. Honestly, Goatmatrix is actually pretty good for that because you are going to get comments because it's part of a reddit-like site. That's something 90% of writers won't get on Substack or on their personal Wordpress without significant work and sharing. This is a problem for most bloggers because most of that sharing would be done to a blog with zero comments on it which isn't the best look. Writing here you can get comments right away and then share it.
Nifty
Will be abused by trolls into posting kiddie porn, goatse, lemonparty, or nudes.
Well now that you've given them the idea. And I plan to share this everywhere as an article.
At the end of the day all it can do is link to an image. An image that has to be hosted somewhere. Where they could link to instead directly if they wanted to traffic an image link around. So it doesn't quite add up.
