You should include 'Interface' by Umami

I know it didn't get commercial release, but it has the best writing of any film I have seen for the past 10 years.

Apologies, I think the link I posted was timestamped at 18 minutes into the movie.

Watch it all the way through, from the beginning. I promise you it is way more interesting than Donnie Darko, which was kind of a shit movie, and does not require drugs to be entertaining, just an attention span.

Yeah. For me it's just a reality that to have the attention span to watch a movie I really need other people. Even if a film is really good it just tends to be the case. I don't really watch movies by myself often. I say having watch Roadhouse kind of recently by myself.

Nice to see a lot on the list I don't know about, hopefully more better than not.

I think folks are missing out on these listed above:

  • After Hours (1985) 7.6/10 - hilarious Martin Scorsese directed comedy.
  • Black '47 (2018) 6.8/10 - period Irish resistance drama with bits of action.
  • Blue Velvet (1986) 7.7/10 - David Lynch's dark thriller. First watched on acid. Fucked up great movie.
  • Brazil (1985) 7.8/10 - Monty Python's Terry Gilliam directed, multiple endings.
  • Bullet Train (2022) 7.3/10 - saw it once, mindless action, good fun, well made.
  • Catch-22 (1970) 7.1/10 - hilarious comedy and political war satire, released the year I was born, based on the book. Haven't seen in decades, wonder if it holds up.
  • Cunk on Life (2024) 7.3/10 - hilarious comedy.
  • Hidden Agenda (1990) 6.9/10 - Irish resistance political thriller drama with bits of action.
  • It's All Gone Pete Tong (2004) 7.2/10 - DJ + drugs + deaf = very funny comedy with heart.
  • Jeremiah Johnson (1972) 7.6/10 - classic movie but not typical western.
  • Prospero's Books (1991) 6.8/10 - Peter Greenaway's version of Shakespeare's Tempest, beautiful, innovative, naked people, and very slow and tedious at points.
  • Soylent Green (1973) 7.0/10 - classic dystopian, slow at points.
  • The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) 7.5/10 - famous actors dress in drag and were very funny in the 1990s, this is the better of the two, a movie with heart, though times have changed.
  • The Draughtsman's Contract (1982) 7.2/10 - Peter Greenaway's methodical clever period mystery, but may be slow for some.
  • The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) 6.5/10 - enjoyable action, good effects, decent story, predictable, underrated.
  • The Last of the Mohicans (1992) 7.2/10 - one of the greatest movies (great director's commentary too) by Michael Mann. Action, history, period, romance, western, war, etc.
  • The Transporter 2 (2005) 6.3/10 - mindless action, with a crazy hot blonde chick.
  • The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) 7.5/10 - period Irish resistance drama with bits of action.
  • To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995) 6.8/10- famous actors dress in drag and were very funny in the 1990s, haven't seen it since so it might not be good anymore.

Haven't seen yet but really want to:

  • 1984 (1956) 6.9/10
  • Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) 7.7/10 - Love Dana Wynter in this.
  • Smile 2 (2024) 6.7/10 Love Naomi Scott!!! Haven't seen Smile (2022) 6.5/10 either.
  • The Brutalist (2024) 7.4/10
  • The Iceman (2012) 6.8/10
  • The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977) 6.4/10 - movies and comedy were much slower back then. Tried, but haven't seen this yet.
  • The River (1951) 7.4/10
  • The Substance (2024) 7.3/10

New recommendations from a random train of thought:

  • Barbarella (1968) 5.9/10 - Before Austin Powers ridiculed it, superhero retro-kitch in all its glory. Shocking to see such a low score.
  • CQ (2001) 6.2/10 - Roman Coppola (son of Francis) directed, much like Barbarella, Danger: Diabolik, and others of the era but not as good IMO, better in some ways. Great director's commentary. Recommended only for film buffs.
  • Cyrano De Bergerac (1950) 7.4/10 - romantic swashbuckling wit, English, black & white, Jose Ferrer.
  • Cyrano De Bergerac (1990) 7.5/10 - romantic swashbuckling wit, French, colour, Gerard Depardieu.
  • Danger: Diabolik (1968) 6.5/10 - French superhero retro-kitch in all its glory.
  • Dangerous Liaisons (1988) 7.5/10 + Valmont (1989) 7.0/10 - same dramatic story from the fantastic novel, DL is better despite V directed by Milos who did the great Amadeus movie.
  • Logan's Run (1976) 6.8/10 - classic dystopian sci-fi, last before Star Wars.
  • Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) 7.5/10 - period tall ship adventures. Shame this didn't become a series.
  • The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen (1988) 7.1/10 - Monty Python's Terry Gilliam directed.
  • The Purple Gang (1959) 6.0/10 - a mediocre movie about the worst mafia gang in history, Detroit's notorious Jewish The Purple Gang. Don't even remember if I saw this (long story) despite them being prominent in one of my screenplays.
  • Time Bandits (1981) 6.9/10 - Monty Python's Terry Gilliam directed (heard they butchered the recent series).
  • Tous Les Matins Du Monde (1991) 7.5/10 - French, beautiful sad period movie.
  • Vatel (2000) 6.6/10 - Gerard Depardieu, like Downton Abbey but much more fun and further back in history.

Why not have a discussion about WHY we want to see things rather than just a vote?

If I haven't researched all of those on the list for their pros and cons, I'm sure no one else has.

Every movie has merits and issues, and may or may not appeal to each individual in various ways. Movies are far more complex than even voting on stupid political issues.

I want to hear the case why people like what they like. I may or may not agree or may be indifferent. I may find some folks have similar tastes or takes on things - and I may want to avoid some consistently bad choices, genres, recommenders, or whatever. I may or may want to discover new amazing deep cinematography or just appreciate tits and action.

A basic vote means very little in this case. They don't even list the year (it matters) or the IMDb rating (limited, but a measure nonetheless).
